25 years of investment, production and business in the Vietnamese market, Vedan Vietnam has experienced many difficulties, the market for processed foods in general and MSG in particular has always faced fierce competition. However, the company’s staffs and workers have raised their determination to successfully complete the targets of production and business, employment, stable income, material life, and employees’ morale constantly improving. That is, proving that FDI enterprises – Vedan Vietnam have had the right direction and have been successful in the Vietnamese market.
Building and developing from the foundation for the benefit of employees
Dong Nai is a locality with charming landscapes, convenient transportation, gentle people, and rich resources. In particular, it is a place where high-quality agricultural products are abundant, meeting the demand for raw materials for the production of products: Amino acids, modified starches, starches, maltose syrup, basic chemicals and consumer goods industry.
Moreover, Vietnam is a potential market, has a large consumption capacity, has young, hardworking, knowledgeable, and fast absorbing human resources… Therefore, Vedan chose Dong Nai is the “destination” for investment. Mr. Yang Kun Hsiang – Representative of Vedan Group, confided.
On the first day, coming to Vietnam Vedan only had one factory located in Phuoc Thai commune, Long Thanh district, Dong Nai province. However, with the continuous efforts of the Board of Directors and employees, Vedan has gradually developed and asserted itself in many fields. Each stage of development, Vedan always sets general goals, in line with the Group’s business and production development to serve as a “guideline” for each specific activity.
And, taking care of the material and spiritual life, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of employees, building a strong trade union… are always among the goals throughout Vedan’s operation. After a quarter of a century of operation in Vietnam, Vedan’s investment capital in Vietnam has now reached over US$580 million; contribute over 300 billion VND/year to the state budget;
Consuming a large amount of domestic agricultural products contributes to the development of raw material areas and promotes the consumption of agricultural products (including raw sugar, molasses, cassava, starch, industrial salt…); creating jobs, stable income for farmers in many provinces and cities, and over 3,800 employees are working directly at the company…
Towards employees
According to Mr. Yang Kun Hsiang, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Vedan Vietnam: the company always identifies people as the main factor, an important resource to bring success to the company. Therefore, taking care of employees is always the top goal of the Company’s Board of Directors.
In order to accomplish this goal well, the company’s leaders have closely coordinated with organizations and unions to closely direct the departments, production plants, and employees to well implement the dialogue regulations and democracy regulations… coordinate with experts at each facility, department organize the Civil Servant Congress, Employee Conference; regularly supplement The Collective Bargaining Agreement with things more beneficial to employees; develop a regulation on coordination between Labor Union and professional… Thanks to this close cooperation, caring for employees is carried out in all respects.
Besides, with the criterion: “Practical, effective, oriented to the establishment and employees”, the company’s leadership always innovates in content and operation methods. This, evidenced by many practical and humane activities that Vedan has implemented for many years, has been recognized and appreciated by authorities and workers at all levels, such as: providing free accommodation for employees who have houses far away, or houses in other provinces can stay.
The dormitory has a capacity of over 300 people, built by Vedan quite spacious, clean and beautiful with sufficient equipment to meet the daily life needs of workers; every day, thousands of employees are served by the company to eat and drink free of charge in the spacious and clean canteen with nutritious food. Here, in addition to three main meals, shift workers are also served by the company with extra meals to ensure their health.
Supporting shuttle car to pick up workers at points in Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Ba Ria Vung Tau; supporting petrol fee for employees who go to work by motorbike; building sports fields (soccer, basketball, volleyball, tennis…), and at the same time organizing many exchange and friendly competitions to improve the health and spirit of employees. Every year, the company also organizes commendation and rewards for the children of employees who have good academic achievements.
Organizing contests: cooking, flower arrangement, contest “Vedan employee voices”; organizing many courses to help employees improve their professional qualifications, production and business management…; annually, organizing to honor the dedication and contributions of employees (who have worked for over 20 years) to Vedan.
In particular, with its prestige, the grassroots labor union has guaranteed for hundreds of workers to borrow money from the CEP fund (capital support fund for the poor), with a maximum loan amount of VND 30 million, paid within 15 months (monthly, workers deduct part of their salary to return to the fund). With this activity, it really left a strong mark in the hearts of every employee. Indeed, a very humane job, which has helped many workers get out of difficult situations, work with peace of mind, and stick with the company.
At this point, Vedan continues to accompany for the sustainable development of enterprise, for jobs and the lives of workers; build a harmonious relationship with employees; towards the grassroots, for the benefit of workers; building a strong labor union; labor union activities must always be close to the government; obligations and legitimate interests of employees must be close to the reality of daily life…
All of them have left a strong mark, which is recognized through the event: on November 29, 2017 Vedan Vietnam was honored to become 1/44 of enterprises ranked in the Ranking “Enterprises for employees 2017”. This is a program organized by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, and the Vietnam Chamber of Industry to honor businesses that have made great efforts in improving the working environment job; taking care of workers’ lives; building a harmonious relationship between the interests of the enterprise – the interests of the employees – the interests of the society. The ranking of “Enterprises for employees” is closely evaluated based on a set of criteria (built by labor experts and unions), in order to closely reflect the way enterprises using and treating (all fields) for employees: income, training, working environment, social welfare, and physical and mental fostering activities… In addition, the set of criteria also gives priority points especially for enterprises with high welfare regimes for employees and good compliance with the provisions of the law; the ranked enterprises are also consulted with industry unions (at all levels), localities and the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs.
25 years of investment in production and business in Vietnam, Vedan has continuously developed sustainably, achieved many remarkable achievements, Vedan has been honored to be recognized and awarded by the Party, State and all levels, branches and localities many noble rewards. These are: Class III Labor Medal awarded by the State President, Vietnam Gold Quality Award in 2004 awarded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Top 500 largest enterprises in Vietnam, Top 20 famous brands in Vietnam certified by Vietnam Intellectual Property Association, and many other emulation titles.
