With the motto “Employees are the most valuable asset”, on June 2, 2017, Vedan Vietnam Company launched and organized the 1st Action Month for Occupational Safety and Health in 2017 with the theme “Promoting OSH training to prevent occupational accidents and occupational diseases”.
On this day, Vedan Vietnam Company cooperated with Dong Nai Provincial Fire Police to organize a large-scale rehearsal of fire fighting and rescue plans. Participating in the rehearsal were about 200 people, of whom more than 30 professional fire fighters were directly directed by the Dong Nai Fire Prevention and Fighting Police, the search and rescue force. Regarding vehicles, there are 02 command vehicles, 04 fire engines, 01 ambulance, and other technical means.
The hypothetical situation this year is a short circuit causing fire and explosion at the MSG finished product warehouse. The fire developed very quickly and emitted a lot of toxic fumes, causing some workers to faint and trapped in the workshop. When detecting a fire, employees who have followed every step of the fire prevention and fighting work well trained. In less than 2 minutes, since the automatic fire alarm system sent a signal, the on-site fire department coordinated with the company’s firefighting team, fire truck, ambulance, and professional firefighting force quickly deploy fire fighting and rescue work, evacuate employees, move assets out of the fire area, medical team provide first aid and emergency first aid. Especially this year, there was a hypothetical situation in which the fire extinguisher operator dislocated his leg, and his teammates calmly and quickly coordinated to bring the injured person away from the fire to a safe place waiting for ambulance. After a period of active coordination, the hypothetical fire was extinguished and did not affect the surrounding areas. All employees and workers at the MSG finished product warehouse were evacuated to a safe location.
Senior Lieutenant Colonel Truong Van Tuan, Deputy Head of the Firefighting and Rescue Instruction Department (Dong Nai Fire and Rescue Police) who provided instructions on fire fighting and rescue, highly appreciated the training session, he said. Vedan Company is one of the key companies of the province, so the rehearsal of fire fighting and rescue plans at Vedan Vietnam Company is annually held on a large scale in order to improve awareness and train basic skills on fire prevention and fighting safety for employees throughout the Company, ensuring safety in production work.
Also in the activity of the action month on occupational safety and health, Vedan Vietnam also organizes the wall-newspaper contest to propagate and remind the awareness of occupational safety and hygiene and fire and explosion prevention in the company for all employees. After 3 weeks of preparation, the jury selected the 3 highest winning teams: Welfare Department won the first prize with a bonus of 5,000,000 VND; Refinery Plant won the second prize with a bonus of 4,000,000 VND; Fermentation Plant I won the third prize with a bonus of 3,000,000 VND and many consolation prizes and individual prizes. In addition, the Company’s Department of Environment, Safety and Health also rewarded the employees who won the title of “good employees for assurance of occupational safety and hygiene 2016”.
Vedan Vietnam Company is currently a typical enterprise applying the policy “Care for environment for sustainable operation” according to ISO 14001 standards and the occupational health and safety policy is: “Safe company – healthy people” according to OHSAS 18001 standards. Every year, in addition to organize fire prevention rehearsal, the company also organizes propaganda activities on OSH and fire prevention at the company such as: wall-newspaper contest, hanging posters to propagandize, organize seminars to evaluate the work of OSH at the company, organize rewards for good employees for assurance of occupational safety and hygiene, etc.
