The province of Bac Lieu has a long-standing history in salt production, dating back to the early 20th century. At that time, Bac Lieu was regarded as the “Salt Capital.” In 2020, Bac Lieu’s salt- making craft was recognized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism as a “National Intangible Cultural Heritage.”
The Vietnam Bac Lieu Salt Industry Festival 2025 – “A Century-Old Journey: The Life of Salt” will take place in Bac Lieu Province from March 6-8, 2025, under the theme “Enhancing the Value of Vietnamese Salt in Bạc Liêu Province”. The event aims to honor, preserve, and develop traditional salt-making practices while enhancing the cultural and economic significance of Vietnam’s salt industry, particularly in Bac Lieu. A single grain of salt carries within it the stories of humanity, nature, and the triumphs and challenges of the salt industry’s evolution. Salt
is not only an essential daily necessity but also a cultural heritage that plays a vital role in the economy and various other sectors.
