In Dong Nai, on March 31st, 2017, Vedan Vietnam Enterprise Corp.,Ltd was honored to welcome representatives of the press to visit Vedan Company on the 25th anniversary of its investment and development in Vietnam.
As one of first FDI enterprises investing in Vietnam in 1991, to now, Vedan has had 25 years accompanying with Vietnam socio-economic development. 25 years – a quarter of a century – is a memorable milestone marking the sustainable development and proof for the long term investment of Vedan in Vietnam.
The past 25 years have been a pride when Vedan explored potentials of wildness area of up to 120 hectares with conditions of backward roads; there was no power source to guarantee plant’s operation; there was no major waterway route, and lacked means of communication… and made it become industrial plant on modern bio-technology and with scale of almost the largest in Vietnam at that time.
In August 1991, Vedan Vietnam Company after being granted investment license by the Government deployed land clearance and built MSG plant, cassava starch plant, thermal power plant, specializing international port, and administration area, on-site restaurant, and staff accommodation. All these infrastructures were put into operation by Vedan Vietnam since 1994.
After completing plants and basic equipment, in the past 25 years, the company has respectively built more production plants and units. Up to now, Vedan Vietnam has become a scale like a small industrial park of a production corporation including sectors such as: acid amin, modified starch, maltose syrup, basic chemicals, and consumer products. Each sector has a large scale and occupies quite high market share, affirming the company’s efforts for 25 recent years.
During its establishment and development, thanks to the attention of the Party, State and Government of Vietnam, the support of the Ministries and the People’s Committee of Dong Nai Province as well as tireless efforts of Vedan’s staffs, and support of the media, Vedan Vietnam unceasingly invests in developing and expanding more branches in provinces and cities nationwide; at the same time, creating agents and distribution channels throughout the country, bringing products to consumers. Not only conquering the domestic market, Vedan Vietnam also simultaneously affirms its position in the Asian market by boosting its exports to food suppliers, international trading companies in China, Japan, Taiwan, South East Asia, EU …; this brings foreign exchange earnings and practically contributes to the growth of the Vietnamese economy.
Since its operation in Vietnam, Vedan has invested over $580 million in Viet Nam. In recent years, Vedan has annually contributed over VND300 billion in taxes to the state budget. As a pioneer foreign company successfully investing in Vietnam in the contect of unceasingly strong international economic integration, Vedan Vietnam has made great strides in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). In addition, Vedan Vietnam uses a large amount of domestic agricultural products to develop raw material areas and promotes the consumption of agricultural products (including raw sugar, molasses, cassava, starch, industrial salt..), creates jobs, stable incomes for many Vietnamese farmers and more than 3,800 employees working directly at the company. As of 12/2016, 1,283 employees were attached to Vedan Company over 10 years, of which 831 employees have worked for over 15 years and 546 employees have worked for more than 20 years.
In order to gain these achievements, Mr. Yang Kun Hsiang, General Director of Vedan Vietnam sincerely thanked the Government of Vietnam and Dong Nai Province, authorities, press agencies, specially Vietnamese people and all staffs of Vedan for creating conditions, supporting, accompanying with Vedan for 25 years.
Along with business activities, with the view of “Development from society, contribution to society” and the spirit of “mutual affection, mutual love“, annually, Vedan always spends more than VND4 billion for charitable activities such as sponsoring the Dong Nai Study Encouragement Fund, awarding scholarships to poor students, giving Tet gifts to the poor, building houses of gratitude, free medical check-ups, helping people affected by flood disaster, coordinating with the Red Cross… High humanitarian activities have really left a deep impression on the heart of Dong Nai people in particular, and Vietnamese people in general, step by step building the image “Vedan family” friendly, closely, responsibly in Vietnamese society.
However, during its long-term development, besides many gained achievements, in the business process, due to technical equipment standards, Vedan Vietnam also experienced environmental incidents in 2008. On behalf of Board of Directors, Mr. Yang Kun Hsiang, General Director of Vedan Vietnam shared: “This incident bothered the Vietnamese government, media and Vietnamese people who created conditions and supported Vedan for a long time; the company takes responsibility and sincerely apologizes to the Vietnamese people again. From this valuable experience, we are so passionate and determine to rebuild our determination to prioritize the environment as our business philosophy, in addition to building more advanced equipment to improve, our company also achieved Certificate of ISO 14001 on environmental protection, OHSAS 18001 on occupational safety, ISO 50001 on energy management system. At the same time, through continuously upgrading and improving the management system, Vedan Vietnam has increasingly enhanced the responsibility of each employee to improve the process of management, employment and production. We believe that the effort of changing to improve and further perfect the environmental treatment during the past 8 years of Vedan Vietnam is a success milestone for the future.
Deputy General Director in charge of PR of Vedan, Mr. Ko Chung Chih also emphasized: “For the recent 8 years, despite many efforts to overcome and invest strongly in environmental protection, we have not actively opened the information to share with the press and the people of Vietnam about remedies that the company has made great efforts. This has caused public opinion still many questions and has not completely restored faith with Vedan Vietnam. So this is the reason why we commit to change, to open and publicize to the press so that the Vietnamese people better understand the efforts to overcome and efforts to protect the environment and Vedan’s next 25 years of development in Vietnam “.
A quarter of a century passed, Vedan Vietnam is always proud and constantly strives with the spirit of always considering Vietnam as its hometown. On the new road, Vedan Vietnam commits, addition to maintain and improve product quality to serve customers and consumers; Vedan Vietnam actively seeks investment opportunities, consolidates and develops new business lines, in line with Vietnam’s development strategy, to achieve the goal of “Taking root in Vietnam for long-term development”, towards the next half century of development followed by 25 years ahead, Vedan Vietnam continues growing for Vietnamese people.
Striving to become a business recognized by Vietnamese society is always the long-term goal of Vedan Vietnam. Vedan Vietnam chooses to open up its information, positive attitude, to do better, to prove to the Vietnamese society, Vietnamese people about long-term investment commitments in Vietnam that Vedan selected.
